I picked up a V-Tac Mk I sling a few weeks ago at a gun show. I've run about 300 rds through the 556 with it attached, and it really helps stablilze the gun when using the Docter sight on top of the ACOG. Quick and easy adjustments. Good quality. I like it mucho. Paid 25 for it, not sure what it would be like. Glad I did though.

I recently purchased a Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Applications Sling,VCAS-125-AA-BK, an HK Sling Hook, P-HK-100, and an Elastic Hook Cover, HC-BK from Blue Force Gear in Georgia. Works great on my SIG 556 and everything is made here in the USA. Purchased all for $60.00 including shipping.

I particularly like the bungies because on long walks in the woods it eases the jolt of the weight.
I tried out one of the Urban slings at a gun show last weekend and it was just what I was looking for. I like the 2" wide strap, it did a much better job at spreading the load than the thinner ones. While it does not have a large amount of elastic material I do think it has enough to absorb the shock.
I would say that before anyone buys one, go to a shop or a show and try out several since I know I was looking at the Magpul one and when I tried it out I was not so happy with they way it rode on me.

I actually just attached the HK original sling to my sig from cdnn. It doesn't work that bad - i wouldn't walk around with it the full day on my shoulder - maybe across the body for longer duration. It's only 1 inch wide - so it does cut in a little. I might go get a shoulder pad that i can slip on it. All-in-all it works well for what i need it for... carrying it from place to place on occasion.
Nothing I've used,and I've used a few (VCAS, GRSC, Blackhawk! CQC &3-pt, original HK 3-pt, etc), beats Viking Tactics' VTAC padded sling.
I have one on just about every rifle I have, from a work M4, which I've carried for upwards of 20 hrs at a stretch, to an Arsenal SLR.
I've talked a lot of folks into trying one and most became converts and the others didn't care what they used.
For my original 556, I used a HK snap hook for the attachment up front and a quick detach socket at the rear (with a VLTOR Emod Stock). If I had a SIG 556 Classic, I'd use another HK sling hook on the back with loop of 550 cord through the stock's hole.

You could probably buy surplus SAW, M60, or M249 slings (I think Blackhawk makes one) and put a hook on one or both ends and have a nice, cheap padded sling. But, the VTAC has tons of quick adjustment so I can tighten it up to snug my body so it doesn't move around or let out some slack so I can one hand the rifle or wrap my off-hand arm in the sling for stability.
It is the bees' knees.
