Well, I've read all the long threads about how accurate forum members' guns are, if it's a MOA gun, etc...and while I don't offer a definitive answer to that question, I was shocked at my 556's performance at the range yesterday!
This is the first time I've got a sighting system set up (Comp ML2, 4MOA), and trying to sight it in I got consistent 5 shot groups under 1'' at 50 yds. While some may say, well that's about 2 MOA, yes, I understand but I think it's somewhat better than that given:
1) I was not on a bench rest, but prone using a shifty backpack, trying to sight it in quick before I died of the heat
2) I was not using a scope, but a 4 MOA dot at the brightest, largest level so I could see it in the sunlight and last but not least
3) my shooting skills are always a work in progress.
I was using cheapo Wal-Mart Federal 55 gr FMJ. Range temp 96F, 2-4KT wind. The 556 groups are the one in the center and to the right of center. Two of the other sub 1'' groups were off the target on the cardboard and not pictured as I sighted in my Aimpoint. The other random shots were familiarization rounds and shots from a friend's M95. The shots in the center were my last 2 rounds after getting the Aimpoint where I wanted it.
