Structure of the SIGARMS556 website

I was curious to know if anyone else thinks that this site has way too many discussion sections (there are 13 in all). I find it impossible to remember which section a particular thread was in etc. Some sections (like 'introduce yourself' could be replaced with just a sticky thread for example, and I really don't see the point of separate sections for slings or magazines.

Seems to me we could get by with a much simpler website - maybe as simple as:

556 Discussions
FAQ
Photo Shop
Buy / Sell / Trade

or similar. Also, I think we have accumulated enough info for 'someone' :D to write up a FAQ covering the questions that come up all the time about this rifle.

I'm just a regular poster like the rest of you, so I have no power to change things, but lets see what people think.

Opinions??

This site is fine...

SIG SAUER website sucks. 99% of it is useless fluff. The site should be for CUSTOMERS who own their product or want to purchase their product and get accessories... you CAN'T do either there, they have no parts or weapons. They need to take the site down, tits on a boar USELESS.
Well, here's my thoughts (since you asked mind you, not complaining)...

Undecided on the lounge. Supposed to be an "off topic" forum and it's more like an extension of the discussion forum.

Move the availability into the "Buy/Sell/Trade" section.

Kill the unused Assault Rifles, Battle Rifles, and Shotguns, Pistols, & Hunting sections.

Kill the Introduce Yourself section. Those that want to can in the Lounge.

Combine the Lights/lasers with the slings & other sections.

Combine the mags & ammo sections.

That will leave the bb with 10 forums. IMHO.

There WERE less sections a week ago, but people wanted more.
So there are more, and now people want less.
I don't know, i guess it's insatiable demand!
We should just be happy that there actually is a site dedicated ONLY to the SIG556!
I think the site is fine. Can't seem to post photos tho. Never was too good with this zany internet thing.
I Voted no, but I do wish there was an easier way to post photos. I wish I could just upload them from my computer vs using photobucket or whatever. I still think forums in general are incredible sources of information, especially the SIGARMS 556 forums!

Tough bunch here I tell ya, these forums are not even a week old and they have been deemed unused.

Storage and bandwidth charges are why we don't host pictures. We do not charge for using the site, we have never solicited for donations, nor have we received any donations unsolicited. The site is free to use, I would rather upload pictures to hosting services than start charging a fee to use the site.
I dont have an issue with the extra categories although it does go outside the scope of a SIGARMS 556 site.

But, maybe a re-grouping of the topics.

Keep the main 556 topics to the top and put the non 556 at the bottom.

I thought it was just fine prior to the addition of the new topics. If people want to talk about those other topics they should go to forums that deal with off 556 topics.

Sorry Chief, I thought admin posted this thread. I didn't even notice the new catagories and was going off their post counts. The only real change I did notice was moving the Lounge above the Discussion section, which seemed odd. As for adding or removing catagories... this is the first topic I've seen on the issue and posted my thoughts.

Great site! No problems with you NOT hosting pictures!
I appreciate the explanation about the pictures. I don't have a clue what it cost or takes to run a site like this. I know it is a lot of work from my conversations with an administrator from a non firearms forum. They let you post pics, but they have recently become busy enough to have sponsors. There is and never was a charge for membership. Again, thanks for the explanation.

Britt
No need to apologize. I value the input. I added a few forums based on a question I posted a month or so ago. These 3 new forums are the result.

The site is obviously first and foremost a Sig 556 site. Since many/most/all of us also own other firearms I thought it may be nice to discuss them as well. If they don't ramp up in use shortly, I'll delete them. It takes just a few keystrokes to make them disappear :)

Thanks to all for their valued input !

I agree with Availability and Buy/Sell/Trade. These are similar but different. Availability is almost frivolous since I haven't seen any SIG556's collecting dust anywhere. The Buy/Sell/Trade Non-FFL is important.

Not sure of the value of Introduce Yourself section. I personally don't frequent that section but I'm more of a gun fan than people fan. I do look at the picture thread though. If someone posts enough and I get intrigued about them or their background or "stuff" I'll search on their name and see what other things they've posted. Gives me an idea of what type of person they are.

Lights/Lasers might be better suited for the Optics area than Slings & Others.

If you can't remember where you saw something, search for some key words.
If you can't remember where you posted something, search for your posts.

Posting a pic is the way it should be. I'm going to write up a sticky or something to help with that because I struggled through it the first time. It will be in the Picture section.

Thanks for a great website! I've been an AR 'user' for a number of years and the ARF site has been invaluable. This site helped push me over the edge to buy a SIG556. And then the pics of the SBR just hurt me so I had to get the P556. I just shot it Saturday after a 3-Gun Match. Wow! What a ball of fire that thing puts out! Can't wait to get my paperwork back and buy an ACE folder and SWR suppressor.
