Call me Herr Buzztodt, but I'm not seeing the utility.

Unless you're going to weld the rail to the upper, you're still using the same attachment points and you're adding weight, however little. Most optics rails are aluminum and work fine.

This is exactly what is going to be done as this rail is going to be patterned after the original steel Swiss rails that are welded to the upper receivers on the Swiss 55x rifles. 8)
