I took my 556 sbr thru a carbine course today. The course was in central Florida where the ground is more fine sand than dirt. We were on the ground a lot. My 556 ran flawlessly thru 600+ dirty rounds. That certainly wasn't true about many of the AR's.
There's alot to be said for the core 556 platform. I don't think either my sbr or 556 carbine has ever had a failure in several 1000's of rounds.
I have some gripes about the 556 to be sure, but if the SHTF there are many worse firearms you could have.
