Good Morning! I have a question about a weld I see on a 556 listing. I’m new here and new to 556 Sigs in particular. I recently purchased my first 556 and was looking to get another. I like buying in two’s, but I digress. There is a “new old stock” listing from the same shop that I recently ordered my first one from. There is a weld on the upper receiver that caught my attention. I compared it to my first one and there is no such weld on the one I first ordered. The gun appears to be in immaculate, unfired condition, but that weld looks poorly done.
Have any of you knowledgeable gents seen this before? The rifle is a JT prefix that was manufactured in 08/2009. I wouldn’t be too concerned if it was something that’s been known to happen at the factory, but there’s no way I’ll get this one if this was done by a previous owner. I’d greatly appreciate any information that can be provided. I have provided some photos. (The one without the weld and the one with the weld)

Looks like just a sloppy factory weld, shouldn't be any more but cosmetic. I'd check the rifle over thoroughly for function, and alignment of the top rail. If price is right, it might still be a great gun, but I like my JS model 556's

Thank you for taking a look. The photo of the one without the weld is a JS model, as you no doubt noticed. I can already see why you favor them. I’m not a welder, but even I could tell it’s an ugly weld.

The weld at the top looks to be the worst part, the lower weld looks ok just from a cosmetic sense. Again, i'm sure its fully welded through, but this is why you see the quality fall off on some of the later models.
