You can buy all the uppers you want but they'll all be 5.56 and remember that's the part with the serial number. There's been talk for a while about a 308 BUT don't hold your breath and don't even count on it fitting your 556 lower.
Purchasing additional Uppers for the 556?
Was curious as to if it is possible to purchase additional uppers for the 556. Also if they have different calibers available. Would really like to get a 6.8 upper if that is possible.

In all honesty I was joking around, I'm not sure if you can buy just the uppers. I was just making the point that the only caliber offered is 5.56mm
I caught some word on another board that SIG is not interested in selling uppers for the 556. Next year there will be other uppers for the SIG 556 platform you can buy. Starting in 5.56 and later in 6.8, 5.45, 7.62x39.

Where did you see that and how long are you willing to hold your breath?
This was not from SIG but another manufacturer. And I heard it from someone inside the company, so I am pretty darn sure it is going to happen.

The AR advantage is that there are so many different companies making AR-15 parts. FOR A REASON. You do not buy a Sig so that every other a$$hole in the US has the same rifle as you.
You buy a 556 so that it can be carried on your back across the continent... fire 5,000 rounds..... clean only the barrel..... and trustingly know that .....IT WILL OPERATE!

When I talk to Sig Customer Service I have ask the question and generally have to provide the answer too.
