Proposal: 1st Annual National Sig Arms 556 Meet & Shoot

So... I'll just submit this for your consideration...

WHAT
A chance to get together in-person as a group, all in one place, for a limited time (long weekend?), do some shooting, learn from each other, and have some fun at the same time.

WHY
Provides an opportunity to share experiences in real-time, meet, shake hands, crack jokes, thank our LE/MIL folks in-person, barter items, attend short presentations/best practices sessions by some of our esteemed SigArms556.com forum members, and maybe include friendly Sig 556 related vendors for same.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
Choose a convenient city/town (jurisdiction) where our firearms enthusiasm (and the 2nd Amendment) is appreciated and welcome. Allow the local municipality (and politician?) the opportunity to host this "convention" and benefit from our patronage. Group rates, sufficient rifle range(s), convenient to air/car travel considerations, et cetera. California is probably out. :)

INVITE SIG ARMS
Get Sig involved and invited. Allow them to consider the opportunity to speak directly with their enthusiastic owners, possibly provide discounts, and/or direct dialog with constructive feedback. Possibly invite other vendors and/or like-minded businesses to share information (garner our attention) in exchange for a door prize or two, i.e. sponsor opportunities could be an option / or not.

POSSIBLE TOPICS FOR SHORT PRESENTATIONS
... Strip Class (field strip/cleaning, mechanical, troubleshooting, things we have found that work best, gotchas, practical tips when servicing & maintaining the various Sig 556 rifles & pistols).

... Group Therapy (introductory zeroing, sights, optics, shooting posture, basics).

... Accessories (pros/cons on rails, bipods, mounting solutions, magazines, buttstocks, lasers & lights, grips, mods, weight/balance considerations, and installations).

... Ammo (choosing the best round for your needs, reloading recommendations, using a chronograph,

... Repairs & Maintenance (scheduled maintenance based on round count & service use, discussion on wear, what to look for, and must have spare parts)

... Shooting match, raffles, demonstrations, and others

The concept is embryonic at best, limited only by our imagination. This could prove to be something very valuable for many forum members.

Great Idea.

You're right. California is not an option, unless everyone agrees to install a "bullet button" AND permanently alter their magazines to hold only 10 rounds.

How about Las Vegas? Organize it to coincide with the 2010 SHOT Show in January. My local FFL dealer already got me tickets! 8)

Maybe it could be done regionally. I live in KCMO which is very centrally located. Just a thought.
Go Chiefs! Hopefully, the Chiefs and the Niners won't suck as much this season. I've been rooting for the Chiefs since they had Barry Word and Christian "The Nigerian Nigthmare" Okoye. Yes, I'm brave enough to attend Raiders home games wearing my Chiefs jacket!

I've never been to KC, but maybe I can catch a home game (during a Sig event) sometime this fall! :D

Meet-up (early planning stages)

For those interested in attending a meet-up...

How about we propose a meeting location that is near a range we can all use?

I have a club with twelve modern outdoor pistol ranges used for IDPA & USPSA and the like, a select-fire designated range, but only ONE rifle range with 100 yard & 200 yard backstops. I just don't think 26 miles outside Little Rock, Arkansas is convenient to the SigArms556 forums membership.

Little Rock Regional (LIT) is not a very convenient airport.

Vegas typically has inexpensive flights to and from most airports in CONUS.

I think we need a member herein that has substantial land or access to a range that is also a convenient hub to you the readers. Arkansas is somewhat Central CONUS, and I am happy to oblige and sponsor, but there may be other members willing to step forward with a better destination in mind.

I'd much rather have more members attend a meet-up, then make it more convenient for just me.

What say you?

30+? Big number but def several places that could accomodate that amount. Indoor or outdoor? Some of the local ranges. Also a number of public lands where we could pitch awnings and set up firing lines. I'm not the best person to ask about these 'unofficial' spots, but I'm sure someone else from AZ can chime in about those.

Indoor:

Outdoor:

Sounds cool - but if I can't drive to it, we prob won't come. Not paying that much to subject myself to the $7 per hour morons power trippers at the airport and not anticipating handing our rifles over to the baggage monkeys either - LOL

Seriously, if we can, we prob will come if one is set up. No frangible ammo though, please.

Think a place like Thunder Ranch would do?
