Ok guys getting ready to order a set of the original sig diopter sight with rails from CO GUN. Are they worth it and do they mount up on the classic without mods.
Not really concerned on the price and do they match up with the hooded front?
Let me know gang

If you are ordering the rail/ sight combo ($559.95) then you need matching 550 front sight. Then should line up just fine. Post pics when you are finished I would love to see.

Dem people you were absolutely right. My cellphone actually got through to Colorado guns and spoke to a tech guy. I do have to have the original Sig front to go along with the rear, glad you brought that up.
I have ordered the front and the rear should get to them in about 15 days and will get it shipped out.
I have been told by the tech guy that I will have to make one mod to install the rear sight. When I remove the rail there will be a nipple sticking up where the screws go into the receiver. I will need to remove the verymost rear nipple to install the sight. It does not have to completly go away so there will be enough to reattach the original rail.
The rear sight will also have a sling attachment and sit level with the receiver which will make mounting optics a non issue which to me makes it worth the price.
Does anyone on here use this setup or am I the tester? I will either have it done by someone so it will be ready when I get home or do it when I come home. Either way will get it all set up and take plenty of pics.

You will be the 1st that I know of. Use caution when mounting a sling to that rail. My rail pulled off the top of mine and I would not trust mounting a sling and using it to those studs. The original is welded on.

...this is very good advice...especially considering that you have only two studs after making the small modification...if i'm reading your post correctly...

Roger will do on the sling mount. May look at permanent attachment later on. I do not know if the original hex head goes back in after removing the nipple or what will just have to see.
Do you know if the nipple retains all the threads or do they extend into the receiver?
Will do some more checking. The front sight will be at the house tommorow.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe that the nipple retains the threads. When mine pulled out I noticed the whole in the top receiver is large enough to fit the nipple (the exterior dimesnsions). I do not see a way for the threads to be into the receiver also. I looked at buying the same rail, but passed when I found it to be aluminum. I need a steal rail that I can weld. I am excited to see photos. PLEASE pots them when the work is done.
