I've got a classic SIG556 SWAT Patrol (collapsible, foldable buttstock) with around 1500 rounds through it. Bought it new in 2010 or 2011. I've kept it clean and maintained it very well (military mind-set). The only mods I have made are 3rd party pistol grip and charging handle (to better fit under an EOTech) and removing the stock front and rear (diopter) sights.

Recently, after about 1450 rounds, it started having cycling issues. After a few times of having to manually release the bolt, I fired and it popped my charging handle out of the rifle. I thought it was maybe from manually releasing it, so I put it back in, and after 5-6 more rounds it sprung out again. I'm not a dummy, it was in there securely. I pulled the bolt and carrier, field stripped it and found a small burr on the carrier behind the charging handle lock (exterior, wouldn't have affected the function of the rifle). I have NO clue how it could have happened considering where it was. I filed it down smooth, put it back together, lubed it up (Frog Lube) and took it back out to the range. It did the same thing, popping the charging handle out. Now I can't even get the charging handle back in, and I can't get the piston out, like it's stuck on the bolt carrier.

I use PMC 62-grain ammo, no Wolf or steel casing.

I'm about ready to send it back to SIG, unless anyone has had similar issues. I figured you guys are the "specialists" out there, so I'd give it a try on the forum.

Thanks!

Have you tried putting the original Sig manufactured charging handle back in?

I was about to put the OEM charging handle back in but the carrier and piston are stuck... I've fire at least 1,000 rounds with that after market charging handle though.

Looks like I'm calling SIG to send it in. Anyone know the typical turnaround time on warranty repairs?
