Derived from the popular SIG556 model, the SIGSCM™ (Sport Configuration Model) joins SIG SAUER’s line of Classic rifles. Designed especially for sportsman, the SCM is compliant in most states and features a fixed A2-style stock, a 16-inch barrel with crowned muzzle, and ships with a standard 10-round magazine.

Picking up a new 556 SCM this weekend. Any limits on hand-guards or stocks can use? I am in MA and can't have collapsible or folding stocks.

Looking at Troy, Sampson or 551 style. Please give any ideas or recommendations...this is my first SIG and I want to dress her right.

Thanks!

How hard do you think it would be to thread that barrel for a suppresor?
The gas block looks the same and the handguards look like the original fish gills, so I would say that you are good to go with any of the handguards as seen on this forum. If I were you I'd go with the 551 handguards...

...personally i like the A2 stock...nice and solid...looks good too IMO...

...as for the handguards...i would see how you like the "fishgills" and factory sights...especially if you plan on mounting an optic...i would shoot her first before starting to change things out...

...if you don't plan on mounting anything that requires a hard mounting point...i would go with the Swiss 551 handguards...you save 8 oz up front and can still mount a small white light...if you really feel you need one...

...otherwise...if you plan on mounting a foregrip or bi-pod...you should have a hard mounting point...i would go with either a Samson ot Troy Industries RAS...i would pass on the Sig quad rail...but you'll add considerable weight over the 551 handguards...do you really need a foregrip ?...or want a bi-pod on a carbine ?

...just my thoughts
Thanks guys.

How solid are the Swiss style handguards?

Are there differences in brands, ex SIG Factory vs. other brands?

Thanks!

...i have the Swiss 551 handguards on one of my 556s...and also "had" a set on the other...they were pretty solid on one...and had a little play on the other...not much...

...these handguards are great...and completely change the feel of the carbine for the better...however...because they are plastic...they are not structurally sound enough to mount a foregrip...and margionally sound enough for a bi-pod...they weigh slightly more than 6 ounces...by comparison...the fishgill handguards weigh slightly more than 14 ounces...
Thanks for the feedback.

You don't like the Troy rails?
Thanks for the input. I ordered the Swiss Style last night.
I have an SCM as well, but it doesn't look like an SCM anymore.

I have a set of green 551 handguards on it, a green pistol grip, a Phantom muzzle break, and HK leather sling.

Since swiss and classic lowers are just about damn impossible to find for a sane price I'm going to put an ACE stock on it soon.

These iron sights are the ones to get.

I ordered the Swiss handguqrds, Magpul UBR stock, will check out those sights. Want to put some nice optics on it.

Is there any good guides or instructions showing how to change out the stock?

Thanks!
