New Sig 556 Holo, bought in late Jan. 2010. Two range trips and about 180 rounds through the gun total so far. Well lubed, broken down and lubed before first range trip.

Folks, after testing Magpul 10/30 plastic, Bushmaster 10 round metal-aluminum, and ProMag 10/20 metal-steel, I have found that the ProMag's are the only ones that work in my Sig 556. They are flawless with no failures to feed. The ProMag's have the green follower. The Magpuls and the Bushmasters fail to feed almost every time and at most you can get 3 rounds down range before an FTF from the Magpul. The FTF's on the Magpul don't load the cartridge but just slide across the top and leaves a long dent across the top of the unchambered round. The Bushmaster mag is junk and won't feed a single round after the initial first round....! This is not really a problem as I'll just stick with the ProMags and get rid of the other ones. Any ideas on Mags that work well in your Sig 556....? I am in CA so I have to get 10/20 or 10/30 modified mags. I am not a big fan of the short 10 rounders basically for cosmetic issues. I like the look of the 20 or 30 rounder in the gun. I also have a C Products 10/30 SS mag with orange follower on order so I'll test that one out and report back. Regards

D&H mags made in Oconomowoc, WI work excellent. I bought them without the Magpul anti tilt follower and installed them myself. If you want to sell the Pmags just let me know. I would take a chance on them for the right price.

Those look great but I am in CA so I need the 10/30 style that only hold 10 but look like a thirty. Regards

Magpuls and Lancer L5s run perfectly in mine. I prefer the L5s since they are as cheap if not cheaper than PMags and you do not have to worry about window vs. non-window when shopping. Plus, the L5s look like the original Swiss 552 mags (they are only $11.95 @ Bravo Company USA, windowed PMags are $17.10). The Mil-Spec ones with anti-tilt followers run well. The only other mag I have ever used in my 556 is the supplied factory magazine...I used it once and will never use it again.

Update on the Magpul Pmag 30 round mags modified for California use to 10 rounds (modified not by Magpul but a CA vendor).

Folks, I took the two 10/30 Pmags out to the range again today to test them out again in my Sig 556. From this forum Ullie (I think) suggested the break in method for mags is to punch them down with a stick 50 times or so.... I did this with both mags maybe 70-80 times. I also did Ullies suggestion of cylcling the bolt 300-400 on the Sig times or so.... Today, the Sig ate everything the Pmags had, no FTF's at all. So the moral of the story is to break in your mags and new Sig using the methods suggested here. I think my problem was a new gun and new mags, they just needed some breaking in. I put about 200 rounds down range today and was knocking out chicken silhouettes at 200 meters with no problem. Dialed in my Holo sight too... My friend, who has a Bushmaster AR tried my Sig and now he really wants one....! Regards
