I'm on Sig Sauer's factory shooting team and I'm doing some work with Sig on modifications to the 556 series and I'm helping with the testing of the 516 series.

The other week I watched some Sig engineers put 5,000 rds
.
5,000 rounds a day through a Sig556, would make some on here very nervous. Shows Ullie was right and that Sig believes the guns are meant to be shot....alot.

They put the 5,000 rounds through the 516, not the 556.....but hey - the piston driven 556 would have run even cooler than the direct impingement 516!

But in the video of the cookoff, they plunged the 516 into a barrel of water to cool it down every three 30-round magazines!

Imagine that, plunging a red hot SIG into a tank of water after 90 rounds and a huge plume of hot steam erupting!

Certainly a good way to put out burning handguards after blasting a hundred rounds downrange for sure!

I wonder how many rounds it would take a hot SIG to cook a nice juicy Chicago style hotdog and bun wrapped to the barrel?
