Does anyone makes or have made extended handguard for 556xi?
I love the feel and look of the standard polymer guard, but need more frontal "real estate", and wish SIG would offer 13-15 inch long upgraded version in aluminum. I can't stand "SWAT" guard: I don't need tri-rail, and it's still a "shorty".
It's obvious that SIGarms hanged us (xi owners) clean and dry, as all these promises of the "multi-caliber platform" evaporated in the favor of MCX (don't hold your breasts, MCX-ers, as you might follow our path soon enough, once SIG's marketing gurus come out with next "latest and greatest").

I thought Tromix made some aftermarket, but can't find a trace of it, plus I don't think it was long.

I wish I had skills and tools to hack the AR guard. Dang, I've had the Fuglystick on my AK 6 years ago, and hacked Magpul's Rifle Length HG way ahead the Zhukov line (I've contacted Magpul with my proposal, sketches and pictures about 2 years ahead of their release; just sayin' :) ).

Something slim, light and long (hold your [email protected]$$ comments, lol), with cutout for the gas regulator access and upper handguard, with SIG-patterned slide-in rails and pin lock.

Pardon my terrible and childish hack, but you've got an idea:

    Anyone?

You're not asking for anything that isn't industry standard now. the MCX for example.
You might see if Sven at Manticore has any prototypes

its a stretch, but if you want a blank to work with get the rail section from the Banjamin Armada PCP air rifle.
Buy it from Benjamin very reasonably. It will take some work.

    Will look into it; thanks!
Also, I'm even open to "stitching" two OEM plastic handguards together, as suggested by my friend (a Mechanical Engineer and former Machinist). Too bad, he doesn't have a full-scale shop and equipment though, but will run simulations on necessary reinforcement. It's a desperate measure, though.
    Heading to the Benjamin's site.

Cheek pad by GOD' A GRIP ("Shotgunner's Wedge"): what a difference! Exactly what I need to maintain a perfect center-dot sight picture. Love it!!!

I bent and cut a 1/8" Aluminum sheet to make a light mount that also allows me to throw my thumb a little further forward. It fits my style pretty well.[IMG]

Also, there was a thread on M4Carbine.net about someone who made an extended guard via 3d printing.

I think I have the plans with dimensions to cut the plate in my 556XI gallery.

Where did that lower rail section come from?

Lower rail is shortened 12-inch rail from AIM Sports, drilled and installed with nuts and (shortened) screws from Magpul OEM polymer rail package.

There is a great and inexpensive solution coming for any Sig 556 with side rails on the hand guard. Stay tuned for details.

    Standing by.
Hope there is 556xi version as well. Unlike 556, "xi" handguard has a slide-in design with a single locking point at the pivot pin.
If it fits, then take my pesos!
    From SIG556xi manual:
    556xi_HG.jpg

Regardless, ANY quality aftermarket for SIG rifles is a welcome solution, as (IMO) SIG hangs us dry and empty-handed, as it seems like they'd rather sell you their next-gen stuff, instead of keeping their promises on existing product. I LMAO looking back how easily they sold me on promise of .300Blackout "kit" for my "multi-caliber" 556xi in 5.56NATO.
Good rifles, limited/barely existing support. Keeping it, but this is my last SIG rifle for sure.

Your existing hand guard stays on. These are rail guards that have been designed with multi platform geometry allowing them to slide right onto your existing hand guard rails (556's-all models, ARs, railed AKs, Bren 805, SCARs, etc). Patent pending.

Any updates on a tri rail for the 556XI? Sig told me that I needed to replace the polymer hand guard with their aluminum hand guard and that they had a tri rail system that would fit onto the aluminum hand guard, and that the polymer hand guard had nothing like that to offer currently...

No, sorry. Stopped looking and ended up keeping the one I made myself (posted above).
Frankly, SIG took a back seat and spends more time being semi-retired in the gun safe, as new go-to boomstick (Savage MSR-15 Recon) took its place. Replaced its factory's MI 13.5" with 15" free-floater in 5 min. Put the match-grade trigger, all AR accessories easily available, and no fuss in over 2K rounds through. No more SIG's unintended (and still unresolved) "double-tapping" and better accuracy.
