Hello gents, I've just returned from an Iraq deployment and haven't been following all of the changes in the world of the 556. I have an older 556 'Commando' that I got about two years ago that came with the factory folding tube with a MagPul stock. I'd like to keep the stock, but either upgrade the tube with something more sturdy (I broke one of the positions on the tube when I dropped the rifle some time ago) or change it out to a non-folding tube. As its an older lower, what choices do I have? Can anyone recommend anything to me? Thanks.

If you want to go with a non folding stock just buy a buffer tube, castle nut and the retainer plate and you are good to go. If you want to keep it a folder then I suggest buying an ACE folding kit.

I've got a CTR folder on one of my 556's just like that and it is a great setup.

One my other 556, I had the straight OEM SIG adjustable stock on it but I replaced it with an ACE folder and I really like that too! The ACE folder is a great setup. Here are some pics of them:

The ACE folder is a high quality heavy duty rig, light but not adjustable for length, but you order the length you want and can also put a smaller or larger rubber butt cap on it too.

Awesome, but can you direct me where to find all of this stuff? Will any buffer tube work? What/who do you recommend? Thanks.

Sorry for the hijack, but Skypup, what kind of mag is that in your middle photo? Looks like it holds about a thousand rounds (LOL).

Wubbman, we you able to figure out what stock setup would work for you?

It is a simple replacement to take off the folding stock and tube and put on a straight one if that is the way you want to roll.

BTW - i forgot to mention, thank you so much for your service overseas...glad to see that you are taking time to work on your 556 in your spare time!

Skypup, I'm going to go with basically what you have in your second pic, only with my Magpul stock. Is there a place that sells just the tube and ancillary hardware? I looked around and could only find complete kits (ala, with a stock and hardware). So yes, I'm going to just put a straight tube on there and roll like that.

Thanks, but isn't that a polymer tube? I could be wrong. I think I will call them here soon.

A CAV Arms A1 stock and G.I. butt plate work well.

Almost forgot. You can get them in O.D.

Are you interested in parting with the folding stock?
